Where did you find your childcare?

Where did you look when it was time to find childcare for your LO?  I am a teacher...but as long as I can find one other child to care for I am not going to be going back to work in the fall.  I've already tried Craigslist, but haven't really gotten any responses.

Am I missing a great place to advertise that I am a SAHM looking for work?

TIA

Re: Where did you find your childcare?

  • I've used the Maryland Childcare Locate website (it list licensed in-home and daycare centers in my area). I've also used Craigslist in the past too. Have you checked out www.care.com?? I believe their is a fee, but maybe worth checking out. What area are you in?

    Good luck.

  • I also used Maryland Childcare Locate.
  • Thanks ladies.  I'll have to check out MD childcare.  I'm located in Perry Hall.
  • I actually did exactly the same thing you are talking about. I became a licensed provider, and I actually get calls all the time from people in the area looking for care. I stay home with my son and watch another baby, but I am also licensed to watch a few children over the age of two at the same time. Because I already had a teaching degree, I was able to get certified fairly easily.

There's more information here, or you are welcome to contact me and I can tell you about how it was for me to get licensed.

    Good luck!

  • We used Locate, but we actually found our provider via a friend's recommendation.

  • I am in the same boat.  I am currently a teacher, but would really love to stay at home with my baby girl.  However, I am very nervous about leaving my current placement without having anything "set in stone."   May I ask how much the average charge is per child?  I am wondering if I will make close to what I do now (my husband is also a teacher and our mortgage seems intimidating).
