...it looks feminine to me and i pronounced it add-leye (with a long i sound)... i agree with pp in spelling it adelai to get the uh sound but it still looks feminine and id still say the EYE sound at the end if i didnt know
My co-worker's son is Adlai. Unfortunately no one knows how to pronounce it, including the parents, they tell people to say it however they prefer. They call him Ad.
I've always liked it. I don't think we'll use it, but I like that it is familiar (at least to us) without being over-used and will likely stay that way.
Re: I wouldn't use it, but I love the name Adlai.
Ad-uh-lay
Adlai Stevenson is the only person I have ever heard of with this name.

The boy's name Adlai a-d lai, also used as girl's name Adlai, is pronounced AD-lay. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "God is just". Aramaic contracted form of the Hebrew name Adaliah.
Here's what thinkbabynames.com says. I like it- agree it wouldn't work for us, though, and I think Mr. Stevenson was a brilliant man.
