Solution -Picky Eaters...

Our DD was starting to become a picky eater. DH and I started giving in and making mac and cheese (not from a box, but still not healthy). If you haven't read about Dr. Sears' nibble tray, it was an immediate fix. We have been doing this for 2 weeks now and she eats everything!

  • We've been doing that too and DS loves it.
  • Eh, sorry I'm not a short order cook. He either eats what I put in front of him or he doesn't. Either way I know he won't starve himself.

How is this a short order cook? If I am giving my DD a combo of 12 different fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, etc. and she's eating all of it - she is getting more nutrients than the basic 1 yr old with a few things on their tray. She is also developing a diverse palate.

If you're making a seperate plate for your child that is different than what the family eats, you've reduced yourself to short order cook status. I think its important that a child learns mommy makes one meal for the whole family and that its important to eat together as a family. Not nibble, go about your business, nibble again, etc.

  • I don't think the nibble tray is being a short order cook... you can offer one throughout the day and still serve the child regular meals. I also don't think offering 1 or 2 things just for the child/person is that big of a deal. If everybody is having applesauce and my H prefers a banana- no big deal. I'm not going to make an entire extra entree, but making sure there is a side everybody eats- no problem.
