Books on tape...
I?ve been lurking here and there for the past few weeks and wanted to say hello. (I de-lurked on the TTGP board last night). I saw the pp on the deployed Thomas the Train toy and thought I?d share a fun thing my mother did for my siblings and I years ago?
When my father would deploy, he?d record himself reading a children?s book. He would have a different book for each child, leaving it as a special individual present. Once a week, my mother would have ?daddy book nights?. She would play the recorded tape and we would sit in bed and follow along with the actual book. I still have the recorded tapes as a keepsake.
Since this was before the time of emails, much less Skype ? it was one of the only ways we could have my father ?there?. It?s something DH and I plan to do when we have children, during his deployments.
