Babies on the Brain

I feel guilty, longish, WWBOTBD?

I went shopping with SIL at a store that is having a 40% - 50% entire store sale.

I found 2 pairs of Miss Me jeans marked down from $100 to $51 each.

I never buy designer jeans, but these fit me like a dream and I loved them, so I treated myself. Plus, who could say no to a deal like that? I was saving $100 bucks!

SIL passed on the deal but changed her mind the next day so we went back. The owner was working and told her that the jeans I bought the day before were not part of the sale and were part of the fall line up that she had not put on the floor yet. The girl that had been working the day before had put them on hangers and racked them, but was supposed to leave the rack in the back room. She looked me up and down and told me that I was a very lucky girl for getting those jeans at such a "steal."

Basically, I felt like the owner was pissed at ME for her employees mistake and that I basically "stole" them.

I feel guilty and pissed at the same time, also worried I am going to get bad shopping karma...

  • You lucked out on the employees mistake. There's a message board for people who catch that so others can try to get in on the deal as well.  I wouldn't feel bad.

  • Their mistake.  If you go to a drugstore (Walgreens etc) Target, or the grocery store and they have an item out at the wrong price on the tag, would you feel guilty getting the sales price?  I wouldn't.  In matter of fact just the other day, I found bags of candy on sale for $1.  I got to the register and the rang up for $1.91, but got the $1 price.

edit I don't know the difference in there and their.

  • It is not your fault the employee is incompetent.

Keep the pants, don't feel bad and wear them proudly!

If the owner has issues with anyone she should fire her employee.

  • Also, I'll add, I think it sucks the owner was somewhat rude to you.  That's even more reason not to feel guilty.  If the owner was really, really nice and was like, oh you got a great deal, I'm so sorry SIL that you won't be getting that deal, type of thing, then I *might* feel bad.  But if the lady was kinda rude, then I wouldn't feel guilty at all!

  • I agree. You wouldn't have even known if you hadn't gone back to the store. We are human, and employees make mistakes. Sometimes others benefit from those mistakes. It happens. It's like finding an extra hash brown in my bag from McDonalds. I didn't put it there, but I'm not about to drive back to McDonalds from my office and give it back.
  • It's not as if you did something malicious. The store marked and sold them at that price. If you had scammed the system and returned something with a wrong receipt to get money back that wasn't yours (or something like that) then it would be something to feel guilty over.

I have worked places that sold things at wrong prices and we had to honor those prices, it was our mistake and not the customer's fault.

  • I say let it be.

I got 2 pair of $60 work pants for DH at Kohl's one time for $61 because there was a sign that said Buy One Pair Get the Second Pair for $1.  It all rang up for $130 but after a little bit of tugging, I got them both for $61.

Stupid store manager didn't take down the sign, so I'm sure someone else lucked out too.

  • Their fault.  And if it were me, I'd go in there next time wearing the jeans, just to spite the manager.

But I'm a biitch like that.

  • I would shake my bootie teasingly while wearing said jeans while dh watches and then go from there.

Because cash and sex go well together.
