I just got a call last night because during my anatomy scan, they noticed that there is a shadow on the baby's heart. Has anyone heard of this or had experience? My doctor said it is probably no big deal but since we didn't do any of the chromosomal testing, she wanted to let us know since babies with the trisomy gene have a higher percentage of this occurring. The good news is that all of his organs looked great, nothing was enlarged or caused any concern.
I am going to have the quad screening done today. We never did the screenings because we said it wouldn't change our mind otherwise. I am just so upset, is it wrong of me to be this sad? I guess I just need thoughts and prayers, thank you.
Re: Shadow on the heart?
DS2 had it as well. Its called an Echogenci Foci.
Its very common nowadays (with the techology.....).
I, too, was very concerned even after I was reassured by many OB's that there were no other signs of something being wrong. It is totally normal to feel upset about it! I was scared and there were many days when I wondered if I should have gone forward with more testing.
Bottom line: DS2 is perfect and nothing is wrong with his heart!!
You will get a lot of responses (hopefully!) on here about this happening.....and with a good outcome.
I would only worry if there were other signs of Trisomy and since they didn't see anything else of concern, I am sure he is fine!
We had the same thing happen at the 20-week u/s. "Echogenic Focus" - we were told it's very common in "normal," healthy children. But it also happens to be a marker for Down Syndrome, so they have to mention it as a possibility. I was nervous, but everything else pointed to that not being the case...and it wasn't!! But I do know how you feel.
