after my OB butt swab appointment. We found out that every room has a jacuzzi tub to labor in (can't give birth in it) and you stay in one room for all of labor/delivery/recovery/hospital stay (unless you have a c section of course.
Also the waiting room is outside of the actual "entrance" to the birthing center so there is no way for visitors to "sneak" in.
YAY, now I am getting excited.
Re: Toured the hospital
um, butt swab? I have so much to learn.
Our hospital is set up with the waiting room outside the door you have to put the passcode into to enter - my bff loved that when she had her ds.
Does it make me crazy that I actually hope I get a ton of visitors in the hospital? Not during labor, of course, but I can just be out of it while they're oohing and aahing over the babe and blame it on the drugs.
I'm glad there are barriers for you though. I have a feeling we'd have a good MIL story if not. Good for us, not so good for you.
I call it the butt swab but it's technically called the Group B Strep test. GBS is a bacteria that is naturally occuring in everyone but if it's present in the vagina during labor it can cause issues for the baby. If you test positive you are given IV antibiotics during labor. Basicially a large cotton swab is used. My OB swabbed in my vag and then ran it up my butt crack/opening of butt hole.
Good times.
No, this hospital is pretty old and is far from Marco. I think you are talking about the hospital in Naples. It opened around then. My ex friend was actually an interior designer for it.
Yeah it's the MIL I am worried about. She informed us that she will be camped out in the waiting room while I am laboring. She isn't aware yet that they don't allow vistors until at least an hour after the baby is born. I don't think I will tell her. I sorta like the idea of her sitting out there clueless & or freaking out because she can't get in.
ah. got it. thanks
I'm a definite newbie when it comes to a lot of this stuff. The only pg person I've been around irl is my bff and she's a bit of a prude when it comes to talking about this type of thing - so she hasn't enlightened me much.
