Hello all! Happy Monday. I am visiting from 2nd (almost 3rd) trimester and was hoping you guys could help me. I am in charge of putting together a new mommy survival kit for a coworker who is due in July. I was wondering what you guys would have liked to receive in a kit before baby came? Is there anything you would suggest I include? It can be serious, silly, humourous, sarcastic, etc. I am really grateful!
Thanks!
Reyna

OK, getting serious now - I guess it depends on whether or not this is actually for Mommy or for the baby. I've come to view the book Baby411 as my own personal survival guide because it's got really great information written in Q&A form. A pair of PJs would be nice since she'll probably be living in them for a while after her LO is born. Perhaps some of her favorite snacks - Anything easy to open and eat on the go while caring for LO? Some of her favorite gossip magazines?

A bag of really good coffee was one my favorite gifts...it gave me something to look forward to after a long night.
On the silly lines, there is this little book called porn for new moms and it is hysterically funny. It has pictures of cute guys with funny sayings like, "Don't worry, I can cure colic" or "Are you back already? I was hoping to have another 3 hours alone with him."
The thing that helped me the most was a My Brest Friend pillow (with an extra cover or two). I didn't have one until a week after birth and let me tell you...I plan on giving one to everyone I know who has a baby from here on out. The boppy just doesn't do as well.
Lanolin cream and hot/cold packs to help with engorgement.
Maybe some yummy smelling trial sized shower stuff to take to the hospital. No one knows just how good those first showers are until they experience them.
Soothies
A&D ointment (everyone gets desitin, but for some babies A&D is better)
Swaddleme
Gripe Water
Baby Lotion
Mylicon Drops
Baby socks(not booties, socks)
ETA: Happiest Baby On The Block Book and ditto pp who said a cleaning service. Even one time would be amazing!
for mom- lanolin cream, maybe a gc for a mani/pedi post baby, we got this funny book called "safe baby handling tips" by david & kelly sopp, a subscription to Parents magazine
for baby- mylicon gas drops, diapers/wipes, sleep n play pajamas that snap (not zipper), receiving blankets, soft toys that rattle, toys that can attach to the car seat
That book is REALLY funny!
No joke! FREE babysitting for small increments! between 1-3 hours. There were times that I just needed someone to watch DD for 15 minutes while I ate a bowl of cereal or 20 minutes for a shower! So easily a 1 hour babysitting coupon would be soooooo nice to have so I could just feel human again. If I had 3 hours I could eat, shower and either take a nap or clean! I had sutures and stuff and it actually was a requirement to soak in 10-20 minute baths to help heal the area and that was really difficult because DD would always cry right when I was about to get into the tub.
You could maybe give her some bath salts and stuff to soak in. I had some herbs that I bought from my birthing center. Don't buy anything that would irritate or infect more like the foo foo stuff. A bottle of wine and some candles too!
If not then you can do like a dozen bagels from Einstein Bagel company delivered to her house every morning.
