Success after IF

CCRM Ladies

Although I have not gotten the official word yet on my BFN for FET #2 I wanted to get the ball rolling.  History in siggy. I am thinking of getting a 2nd opinion since I seem to be a difficult case.  I love my RE but I am thinking a fresh set of eyes might be a good idea.  Any of you go to CCRM for a second opinion? Or did you start off there? Did you get your BFP at CCRM?  I would love any & all feedback you can give me thanks!

Re: CCRM Ladies

  • hey lady ;-)

I have not done a consult with them yet, but here's what I know, or at least think is true... lol....

---you arrange for the phone consult, it takes about 4-6 weeks to wait for, and then talk on the phone for 45-60 minutes with one of the docs. I believe it's about $250 for the consult, which I think is "forgiven" or rolled into your "one day workup" if you do that? There's some hitch to the "free" claim. Can't remember what it is...

---to follow thru on their phone consult, they offer a one-day workup at their place. Fly in, do some testing, etc. and go home. The cost of $1000 sticks in my mind, but maybe that's just me guessing what the labs would run us OOP? sorry to be vague.

---the couple of CCRM gals here I spoke to kinda thought they were not going to just come out and give you thje "recipe" to get pregnant. You would not get protocol suggestions, per say, and I just was not sure how much I would learn from them, other than "hhhmm, tough case, come on out to Denver!" and that I need to run a couple tests.

We are also at a point where we need to decide what next big step we'll take if we need to take it. While I think CCRM has an incredible program, and they are certainly leaders in this field, I just can't/couldn't stomach the price tag. For the same money (even less) we can do a shared risk here locally, and still potentially get money back. Of course, I already tried this travel IVF thing, and stunk it up. So I'm jaded and gun shy.

I've also got a list of a bunch of places you can travel to for IVF, that are quite a bit less money. Not just internationally, but many on the east coast. I'll be putting those on the FB group soon.

    GL. thinking of you!

and back at you!  Stick out tongue

  • I cycled at CCRM.  First cycle Fail.  Second cycle Success.  Both fresh cycles with microdose lupron protocol.

I think CCRM lives up to the hype.  And I'm not just saying that because of my success - the first cycle I had a total fail where all the embryos died before we could transfer any.  My doc came up with a revised plan which obviously worked the next time around.  In my travels around the IF boards on the internet, I've found that a lot of ladies don't have success with them on their first go-round - it is more a learning experience, so that CCRM learns how your body works.  Then they tweak the plan for your second cycle, which is often successful.

They do a lot of testing up front, and most of it needs to be done with them - you can't just transfer records from another office and be ready to cycle.  But they really use that information well.  They also aren't a magic bullet - I know women who have not found success at CCRM despite multiple attempts.  And the office isn't without the usual personality conflicts with nurses and administrative/billing snafus.  But the protocols and the way the docs tailor them to fit your body are great.  And the lab is possibly the best in the country.  I can say that with confidence because after we had that first botched cycle where we went through everything that happened to our embryos in the lab with a fine-toothed comb and dealt directly with the lab director.

I think you should get a phone consult - depending on which state you live in, it could be free (if you never proceed to come to CCRM for testing, then it definitely will be free - they don't charge you until you show up in the flesh to become a patient).  However, they are not going to tell you which protocol to use or details of their suggestions.  They need the results from your tests before they make those decisions, and I'm sure they are aware that plenty of people schedule consults without any intention of cycling with them, so they probably protect their methods a little.  The consult will only tell you what they think your diagnosis might be, what they think your chances of conceiving are, and what kind of testing you would need to get started.

Best wishes to you, and PM me if you have questions!
