If you failed your 1 -hour glucose test, did you end up failing the follow up 3-Hour glucose screening and get diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes? If so what did your doctor do to hep...diet and exercise? TIA

I failed the 1 hour and went on to pass the 3 hour. I think that it is pretty common to pass the 3 hour after failing the 1 hour. The 1 hour is just a screening not actually diagnostic. Try not to worry yourself and good luck
Failed the one hour test with a 189... Doctor was certain that I had GD due to that and family history of GD and just regular diabetes. He told me very little fat and very few carbs. I followed that diet for the week leading up to my 3 hour GD test and passed wonderfully. Since them, I have watched what I ate just to keep things in check so I do not become GD or diabetic in general.
Both pregnancies I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. That happens to a lot of women.
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
I guess I'm the odd one out. I failed both the 1 hour and 3 hour test and was diagnosed with GD the other day. I have to meet with a Perinatal Specialist who is going to help me plan my diet going forward and will also teach/show me how to use a glucometer and test my blood sugar levels. Thankfully I do not need medication. Good Luck with your 3-hour test!
I was borderline on the 1 hour (passed, but barely), and passed the 3-hour. I was half-expecting to fail because I have PCOS, which makes me more at risk for gestational and non-gestational diabetes.
I failed the 1-hour and passed 2 subsequent 3-hours.
PCOS, lupus anticoagulant, MTHFR (A1298C, one copy)
2 IUIs & 1 IVF = BFN
FET#1 = It's a girl! Born 7.1.10
FET#2 = c/p
FET#3 = Twin girls! Born on 3.16.12 at 33w2d due to severe pre-E. After 4 weeks in the NICU they are home!
With DD, at 17 weeks (early because of my weight), I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. At 28 weeks (repeat because this is when it's required), I failed the 1 hour and failed the 3 hour.
My GD was controlled 100% by diet and exercise (I can go into detail on the diet if you would like...otherwise, the High Risk board has a lot of info).
With DS, at 17 weeks, I passed the 1 hour. At 28 weeks, I failed the 1 hour, and requested to be considered GD because of it (didn't want to drag a baby to the hospital for 4 hours to do the 3 hour). So far, diet and exercise is again controlling it.
I was high risk for GD due to PCOS and long family history of diabetes. I had to take the 1 hour at 20w and again at 28w. I passed at 20w and failed both the one hour and 3 hour at 28w.
So far I am almost all diet controlled ( I count carbs at every meal and make sure I eat every 2-3 hours to maintain a good BS level). I ahve to take 2.5mg of glyburide at night because my morning (fasting) number was never under 90 (close but never actually there) no matter what my nighttime snack was or how much exercise I did...I check my BS four times a day (when i get up and two hours after each meal) and call in my numbers to my specialist twice a week.
The only really hard thing is all the extra appointments. I have NSTs twice a week and I see my regular OB on the normal schedule and the specialist every two weeks. I also get an u/s eevry 4 to monitor her growth....although that part is kind of cool since we would have never got another one otherwise!
I always fail the 1 hr but pass the 3 hr. You won't necessarily fail the 3 hr but my friends with GD said it was more about diet and exercise, than meds. From what I understand very few woman who didn't already have diabetes require insulin. Oh and they do have you do finger sticks but those don't really hurt.
I passed both with Emerson but, failed both with the twins. I just found out last week. My dr hooked me up with a dietitian who gave me a meter to monitor my blood sugar and I'm having to follow a low carb diet.
It was a huge shock but, apparently with twins it's to be expected.

Failed 1 Hr and passed 3 Hr. Doc asked me to cut back on sweets because this kid is a giant. So far I've been eating normally but less sweets and I haven't gained a pound (while baby continues to grow) so she's happy.
