Honestly, when I see Rowan, I always wonder what gender the child is because it is so unisex in my mind. I would probably think of LoTR if I saw Rohan, but it's growing on me just looking at it, so I'd still use it. But I'm also kind of a Tolkien geek, so...yeah...:)
I have a Rohan at my school. He is South Asian (I'm not exactly sure from where) and his name is pronounced like it looks Row hahn. I like Rohan, but not Rowan or pronounced like Rowan.
Re: Rowan = Boy or Girl - and Rohan
First thing that comes to mind is Rowan Atkinson, so I would say boy.
This
Rohan sounds like a boy name to me too.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

rowan i think girl. i like it ALOT.
and rohan, when i read it i pronounce the H in the name. and it seems more boyish to me.
hope that helps!
Totally unisex in my mind. I've never seen it spelled Rohan, but not opposed. I still think I prefer it spelled Rowan.

i think of rowan as a boy's name.
I think Rowan would work well for either.
My blog
Rowan is a really unattractive name to me.

I think of a boy when I think Rowan, but I do think it could go either way.
Rohan- I know of a few Indian guys named this and they say it "Ro-hahn"
