They're making One for the Money into a movie. Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum. I don't really have a huge problem with her as an actress. I found 27 Dresses to be mildly entertaining. But I don't see her as Stephanie Plum. At all.
Of course, the perfect Stephanie is Marisa Tomei. But she's too old at this point.
Re: Oh no. No no no no no. They're going to ruin Stephanie Plum.
Totally agree with you. I always thought Sandra Bullock would be good too but she's also too old at this point. I'm not a Katherine Heigl fan anyway but she is so not right for this part.
The guy they picked for Ranger isn't right either, maybe if there was a flashback and he was a young Ranger, but not our Ranger. Can you tell I'm a Babe?

I totally saw Ranger as being older too. Not old - but not as young as this guy. The guy they picked for Morelli doesn't look awful...but I don't know if he's what I was picturing. I was thinking the guy from The Pacific that played John Basilone could be good.
If Queen Latifah isn't Lula, I don't think I'm even going to bother.
I'm a Morelli girl myself - although I see the allure of Ranger. It must be tough to be Stephanie!
They come right out and say in the book that ranger is young. She says he's right around her age. I agree that the character isn't always written to be young, though.
I actually think these books will translate pretty well into movies. I don't buy the whole "movies are never as good as books" argument, though. I think people would enjoy movie adaptations better if they suspended their expectations and saw a movie for what it is (which is NOT a book).

I think if people would suspend their expectations and see a movie for what is it (a completely different artistic medium than a book) they would probably enjoy the movie a lot more.
I kind of like Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum. Not my first choice, but not bad.

I agree with everything you said! I can't believe they picked Heigl to play her.
I'd forgotten about that and a coworker just reminded me. So I'm entering a cautiously optimistic phase.
If the script's right, the movie should definitely be entertaining!
Yeah, in either book 11 or 12 they say he's three months older than Stephanie, so it might work.
Also, Lula isn't in One for the Money, I don't think (please correct me if I"m wrong, but I thought she doesn't show up till Book 2?), so they can't ruin her just yet.
I think Katharine Heigel is a good choice, she has that sort of happy go lucky, slightly clumsy thing that Stephanie also has.
I think Lula's a minor character in the first book - not a big part, but if they plan on making further movies, one they should cast carefully. I'm eager to see who they cast as Grandma and Stephanie's parents.
It's been a while since I've read the early books but don't we meet Lula in book 1? Doesn't the real bad guy beat her up? After Stephanie in all her cluelessness goes looking for him and Lula actually tells her when she last saw him. Hmmmm, now I'm going to want to go back and read it before the movie, but I know I'll like the movie better if I don't.
As for Ranger, even if he is technically young, like around 29 or 30, I still feel like his life experiences would have made him more rugged than the guy they picked. But I'm hoping that he'll buff up, like Bradley Cooper did for A-Team, and then maybe he'll fit a little closer to the picture in my mind.
