wwyd? birthday outfit

I don't post much but I have a dilema.. My MIL bought DS a birthday onesie before he was born. I said it was cute she said if I liked it she would get it. I was hesitant bc I knew there would be other things I saw over the next year but I let her get it. Now there is a shirt that I REALLY want for him to wear to the party. I'm scared buying it would be offfensive to her but I also feel like he is my son and should wear what I want him to. What do you think? TIA

I say wear both 

DD also has 3 outfits.  She will wear 2 at her party, one before the cake and the other after. She will wear the 3rd one on her actual birthday which is a wednesday.

Our party will go like this: eat lunch, open presents, cake & ice cream, socialize.
