trouble burping and AR?

real quick so I can try to get a nap in. Doc says boys have a touc of AR due to their tummy muscles not fully developed yet.  One does just fine and burps easy. My bigger boy rarely burps no matter how hard we try  and a few times he has spit up (vomited?) so much it spewed out his nose and he had trouble taking a breath. scared me and him! Dr. is supposed to call me today about anything else we can do besides sit him up to feed him, propping up the cribs, etc and keeping him upright after we feed him. Right now they both basically live in their swing or car seat.

Any advice at least on the burping? Any cool tricks that get them to go every time, because he seems to do better if he can burp as much as possible. Oh, and we are hesitant to add rice cereal because the dr. said it will make him constipated. He already strains so much he throws up.

TIA!

Re: trouble burping and AR?

  • My pedi prescribed zantac at first to help (we had the exact same issues with my one son)  The meds ended up not really helping him so we switched to a GentleEase formula and saw a huge improvement.

I also think that it just took time for him to grow out of it and he still has some reflux issues today when eating solid food.

Unfortunately, you may have to try a few different things to get the right "formula" for what can help them.  We never added cereal.

  • We had this too when the boys were about 2 weeks old.  Oliver would not burp and then often spit up and get fussy.  We would walk around with him high up over our shoulder and that would usually work one out.

However- for us at least it was only a week or so till things improved and now they're not spitting up and burping easily...
