Eating Finger foods?

Hey there, not usually able to post but I am out of work sick for a week, so I thought that I would ask a few questions!

We are introducing DS to finger foods, the puffs, melts, ect and he wants no part of it.  He is eating stage 2 meals right now, and is pretty good about it.  We have tried small pieces of chicken or breads or crackers and he just looks at us and throws is at us.  Any suggestions would be helpful!!!

Re: Eating Finger foods?

  • I just feed C most of his finger foods!  I am crazy about messes (I know I need to let it go), so I really only let him feed himself things that don't make a huge mess (I'll put 1 piece at a time on his tray or he won't go for it).

maybe if you start off doing that, he will realize he likes it and be more inclined to stop throwing it!!

  • Sounds like he's just not ready. I'd either keep trying casually, or take a break and try again in a few weeks. No rush! Snack foods like that rarely have any nutritional benefit anyway.

We also feed DD all her finger foods.  If we put food on her tray she either picks them up and holds them in her fists or she throws it on the floor.  I figure she'll get the hang of self-feeding eventually.
  • Just keeping offering them.  DD didn't want much if any when we first gave them to her now she gobbles them up
