There is a place in Waynesville called the Fabric Shack that is hands down the best selection of fabrics you'll find around here.  They have a website but its just not the same as going there to browse around.  I can never find modern looking fabrics at Joann's etc but the Fabric Shack has tons of great modern designers to pick from.  It no more expensive either, in fact I find most of it to be a bit cheaper.  They have two stores, one for cottons and one for upholstery fabric.   Google them!
