Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What is your nightime routine?

Our is usually eat dinner out, then get home and I bathe LO and get his bottle ready and DH feeds him his night bottle while I get the bottles ready for the next day.  The nights we eat dinner at home I feel like it takes so long to cook that we are scrambling to get everything done.  We pick LO up at 5:15 these days (used to be earlier but we're working a lot) so we get home at 5:30, then feed him.  Then whoever is cooking cooks until about 6:15, but then that's about bathtime for LO and we have to wash bottles from the day and get them ready and get LO into bed by 7.

(Edit: these are on the nights that DH and I are both around, some nights one of us ends up having to finish up work at home or DH has to show houses).

  • If you're feeling rushed, can you cook and eat after your DS goes to sleep?

  • i make dinner usually around 5ish. i try to have the meat or veggies prepared in advance so it doesn't take as long. then we all eat together. LO plays while i clean up everything. DH usually supervises him or else he will be in the kitchen, cruising the oven and dishwasher (his newest thing is to lick them - gross!). then around 6:15ish, we get his bath ready. sometimes it's not until 6:30 or even 6:45, depending on if he's tired or not. then we do pjs and i nurse him and then put him to sleep.

can you use a crockpot? it's so nice to come home to dinner almost all ready! or bake chicken and serve it with rice and steamed veggies?

  • 7:00- Basil's dinner(sometimes we eat with her, but we're later eaters.. dinner used to be at like 10pm)

7:30 Bath(if dinner was super messy, or every other day), if no bath, then playtime.

8:00- Diaper and Jammies, then quiet playtime in lowlighting

8:30- sits with me on the couch to nurse

9:00- kisses and saying night-night, then daddy takes her upstairs.

One round of "Hey Jude"(her bedtime song) while rocking in the rocker(lights off completely, rain sounds on), then it's a goodnight kiss and into the crib.

Most nights, she ends up babbling to herself wuietly for two or three minutes before she falls asleep. Sometimes she passes out before the chorus of Hey Jude.. it all really depends.

This schedule has been working awesome for two weeks now(didn't have a schedule before), even through her ear infection and cold.

We do pretty much the same thing for naps too, but she doesn't go down as easy... sometimes cries a bunch while I'm rocking her, and then stops once I put her in the crib and leave the room. I think because she likes Daddy putting her to sleep.. because if he's home during a naptime(rarely), she goes down perfectly.

Oh, and with the new schedule, most nights(unless we eat early with her) I start dinner while he is rocking her, and then we finish cooking and eat together afterward.

  • Thanks, ladies!  I really like the prepping the night before/crockpot idea.  ::dusts off crockpot::
