Mom's of girls that wear bows, headbands, etc...

I am having the hardest time keeping things in DD's hair.  She used to let me put headbands, bows, slips etc.  At this point, it is more of a function than fashion.  Her bangs are really long and always in her face.  I really want to put a clip in to hold them back, but she ALWAYS pulls them right out!  Cutting her hair is not an option, as I'd like it to grow out, and she will have to have long bangs like this at some point anyway.  Any tricks or tips on how to get her to keep them in?  I've tried giving her a clip to play with while I put one in, but it doesn't work.

TIA!

  • I don't have the issue of the long bangs, she hardly has enough hair on top to put a clip in, but I do just because I get tired of the headbands...but I use the kind that look like they'll clip to her skull...lol. I'm not sure of the name, but I got them at Clairs and they're metal like and just clamp together. She can't pull them out and yes...she's tried. :) I just looked online, and the kind I'm talking about is just called " baby clip." So that wasn't really very helpful. Sorry! ETA: I'm at work, so can't do a clicky, but here's the site. https://www.bittybowsboutique.com/clip-types.html

  • I'm having the same problem..I had a friend recommend putting velcro inside her little clips but I haven't tried it yet.  I have been doing a lot of pigtails or ponytails like in my siggy and then putting the clip in front of the rubber band, but she tried to pull that out too.  I mostly just put it back in over and over again but that is getting old! The only time I have to make sure I take them out is in the car because she will pull them out and stick the bows in her mouth while I can't see her

  • I make them, so Marley has had them in her hair since birth. She really doesnt know the difference. She sometimes starts playing with them but I sternly say "NO" and move her hand away and distract her when she tries that.

  • We use alligator clips everyday as our DD has very long hair.  We have to clip them back everyday.  She's pretty much used to it but sometimes we do catch her trying to yank it out.  I've been starting to put the clip at the very top of her head as opposed to a side swipe.  She cant quite reach the very tip top of he head.
  • I use clips for DD's hair. Her bangs are also very long, I have to clip them to the side or back. She'll take them off every now and then but I put them right back on her. There's really not much you can do to stop her from taking them off. I'm hoping by me putting them back on she'll know they need to stay on. But for the most part she keeps them on.  Sorry I have no advice =/
  • I get some of the barrettes with silicone coating on the piece that goes underneath the hair.  Those seem to stay in much better.  I've only found them at Target, but couldn't find a link online.

  • I use the little non-damaging rubber bands. She never messes with them and even if she did, they stay in really well so I doubt she would even be able to pull it out. They are tiny though so I never leave her in the crib with them in, just in case. I put a bow or barrette in front and when the hair is back in a ponytail they stay put.

  • Thank you all.  I guess I will keep trying to put them in.  I am also hesitant to put them on when we are going to be in the car because she likes to put them in her mouth.  I have ones from Target that are the snap clip ones as mentioned above.  I will just keep putting them in, I think her hair is too short to put any type of ponytail in.  :-(
