Random Q re: Speeding Tickets...

Does anyone know if you get a speeding ticket(s) and negotiate it down to paying the fine, but NO points and you get pulled over again shortly thereafter, do the previous tickets show up when the officer checks your driving history, or does it look like your driving record is clear since you have no points?

Random, I know...but please humor me ;)

Re: Random Q re: Speeding Tickets...

  • as far as I *believe* they can't see it.

In Louisiana I got pulled over 3 times in one year.  It was a series of horrible circumstances and I've never been pulled over except those times.  Anyway, each time I was 3 different parishes (counties) and none of those tickets ever came up.  I think it looks clear.

All of mine got changed to non-driving violations.

  • I also think it does not show up...I got two speeding tickets last summer, and our lawyer negotiated them down to just paying the fine, no points on my license.  I had to show up in court for both, and at the second one they called me to the front and the bailiff guy was doing recommendations to the judge and he basically said "since she has no other speeding tickets on her record, I recommend we reduce the speed" (which in essence dropped it down to a non-points-able overage).

  • I was told that it would not be reported to the state by one tiny little town.  They said that they don't have to report 0 points to the state, so insurance would never see it because when they "run" my license, it would not run in each little crap town, only in the state.  May just depend on who gave you the ticket and where.  They might run your city and your state, but not the next town over.  You would think they would all have one big data base, but no.
  • It seems crazy to me that in this day and age, it wouldn't show up...but I have reason to think it might not, either (long story).

....Someone here must have a husband who is a policeman! Too bad this Board is always dead ;)

  • In MI you get points for speeding...even 5 mph over.  It used to be that 5 mph over did not put points on the record.  No more.  You can have the points "waived" or "taken under advisement".  If under advisement...you just pay the fine and don't get the points but I think you must be ticket free for 3 years or you end up with the orginal points added as well.  That was about 10 years ago.  Things have gotten even worse since then though.
