Reusing milk from previous feeding ?

I know this has been asked before so I am sorry for asking it again. My husband feeds my five week old a bottle of expressed milk at his 4 am feeding while I pump. This morning after his taking the bottle from my husband he was crying and seemed hungry still so I decided to feed him some of what I had just pumped. I took it out of the refrigerator and warmed it up. He took a few sips and fell right asleep. I put the milk back in the refrigerator. I think you can reuse it within an hour if it is left out, but can I still use it today if it has been in the refrigerator or did I waste it? Thanks in advance!

Re: Reusing milk from previous feeding ?

  • I've reused milk as long as it's within its "good" time (ex. 8 hours at room temperature)
  • I wouldn't use it,  Bacteria can get in through the nipple from your baby's mouth and grow over time.

  • Some say yes and some say no.  When H was 5 weeks old I wouldn't do it, but I will occasionally now that he's older and we haven't had a problem.  Since your LO is so young I'd probably throw it out.  In the future only put an ounce or so in the bottle if you think he still could be hungry.

  • I would. I don't get too worked up about this kind of thing.
