I was going to say - cool de sac. Other than that -- I don't know of any in South Miami -- Miami Childrens Museum is a nice play for the kids and to stay out of the heat.
I like to meet up with a friend at Barnes & Noble and let Zachary run rampant in the children's section. he's happy looking at books, and I get to see a friend. It all works out pretty well.
I would enjoy checking out an indoor playground, but I'm in Broward so not much help there, sorry!
Also, your local Learning Express should have a small play area you can use for free and they usually don't care if you buy anything or not. Ours has a play kitchen and a train table, dollhouse table, and another table full of other toys to play with.
There's a small free indoor play area (with mini slides and animals to climb and mini tunnels) at Mall of the Americas. I think it was installed last year. I used it a few times last summer.
Also, this is not a playground, but The Goldcoast Railroad Museum (by Metro Zoo in miami) offers free admission the first Saturday of each month, and they have a whole room set up with tables with traintracks and toy trains (Thomas-style). It's an air-conditioned room. We just spent a few hours there today. They also have other things (old trains, some with a/c, to explore, train rides (that cost a few dollars), a hot-as-heck sandbox)), but you can go for free once a month. Oh, and they have free ice cream on First Saturdays, too. It's awesome.
Summer's when I love Gymboree open gym the most, lol. There's a playground inside International Mall, just a couple of things set up in the middle for them to jump on and climb. Barnes and Noble at Sunset Place has a Thomas setup where my daughter loves to play and then look at books. Get Smart has a train table also, although I feel kind of bad going there without buying something since it's a small store. Other than that, I tend to take her to TRU and let her play with all of the sample educational electronic toys cause she loves pressing buttons. We go whenever I need diapers or whatever and I just let her walk around a while first. So far we can get out without me having to buy her a toy but I know that will soon change, then no more trips to TRU.

i worked at Barnes and Noble for 3 years and must comment on this...
1- I would NEVER let a child runa round by themselves in a BN. Honestly, we had monthly meetings about this, and it is pretty nationwide, soooo many pedophiles camp out in the kid's section. We actually had a list of convicted sex offenders (acts on kids under 13) who would come into bn on a constant basis. We couldn't kick them out, but they would leer at children, and it was terrible. This is pretty common in ALL barnes and nobles. so, just becareful
2- just because of resentment towards parents who did that.... a bookstore is NOT an indoor playground :-D hope you picked up after him, at least!!
(yes, sorry if that sounded bitchy, but seriously, 3 years of picking up after kids in a store, throwing away damaged books, and staying until 2 am organizing the kids section SUCKED.)
