Storage question

Looking into how we should store pumped BM when baby gets here. I'll be BF, but also pumping. I heard the Lansinoh storage bags were good, but I just went to BRU site and nearly all the reviews are bad saying that they leak. What is the best way to store BM in the freezer? We'll have an extra freezer, so I'm not too concerned about space, but I'm thinking bags would be easier/cheaper than some of the cup systems I've seen. Also, how long can you keep BM that's frozen?

 TIA!

Re: Storage question

  • I use Lansinoh and havn't had a leak yet. I lay them flat to freeze and then once they are frozen I put them in a gallon ziplock bags. To thaw them I put them in a bowl in case I have a leak, but so far no problems. In a reg. freezer milk is good 3 months in a deep freezer it's up to a year.
  • you can also buy ice cube trays, freeze and store in regular freezer bags. I got some from walmart specifically for breast milk and baby food that came with lids.

  • I've heard Lansinoh can leak if you freeze them touching each other.  I just lay them flat (like pp) one at a time and then when it's frozen put it with the other bags.

  • I have a milk storage tray by The First Years. It has a spring that keeps the bags upright and at the front of the tray, so you can put the new bags at the back and always use the oldest first. It works great for me, I don't have a huge stash. I use both lansinoh and medela bags, I have had one leak with medela and none with lansinoh.
