We're going out of town soon and I was curious how other bedsharing mamas do things on the road. The thought of breaking down the PnP in the early morning hours is not appealing to me but I want to make sure that he's safe. Any tips or what would make you not bedshare in a certain location?
Thanks!
I bedshare away from home too-- it's easier than the PnP for sure!
If DH and I are both there, baby goes in between. We've been bedsharing long enough that we both are aware of where she is in bed. It's worth asking for a king bed in a hotel room for this-- consider the extra $$ saving you the hassle of the PnP and getting a better night's sleep for everyone!
If it's me and her alone, I sleep close to one edge of the bed and put her on the other side of me. I'll line up a row of pillows on the other edge of the bed just to make me feel better.
Either way, I usually sleep with my arm around her anyway (she's kind of snuggled into my armpit), so I wake when she moves and she would have to roll over my forearm to get anywhere. Also, if DH would happen to roll, he'd roll on my arm instead of onto her.
We did. The "crib" the hotel gave us was an extremely old, beat up PNP that wouldn't even allow the "mattress" to lay flat. DS and I slept in the bed, and DH slept on the couch since it was only a full size bed. DS actually sleep-crawled right off the bed one night. Whoops!
We have been bedsharing since he was born so it was just natural for us. And actually was good that he fell off that bed and not ours...ours is super high up!
We part time bedshare (from her first wakeup on), and when we traveled recently (to a hotel), we just full time bedshared. I just asked for extra pillows, lined them on the floor, and boxed her in. Then when I switched sides to nurse, I moved a pillow on that side to box her in.
When we go to my IL's, my MIL keeps her grandsons, so there is a baby bed in the room with us. No biggie.
Not sure what we'll do when we travel in July... 4 adults in 1 hotel room, and Hubs will be in the bed with me. I'll probably take the PnP then just so she (and I!) can sleep better. I dunno though, we'll see!

Yes...we go to my in-laws' house at least once a month and we bedshare there as well as at home.
Haven't actually gone anywhere like a hotel or on vacay w/ DD yet, but I'm assuming we'd do the same thing there...definitely not lug around our PnP that she is rarely in anyway.
I did. They would not have slept in a PNP at a hotel when they wouldn't sleep in one at home.
Exactly.
When we went to a hotel, I would ask for two beds, and DS and I would sleep in one bed and DH in the other. We have a king at home, and the hotels usually had queens. It was just more comfortable if we had two beds.
If possible, I would push the bed up against the wall, and I would fill in any gaps with blankets to make a flat surface, and just make sure that if the baby did squirm, he wouldn't fall in any gaps in the bed/headboard, etc. I would sleep with him between me and the wall.
Yes. More often than we do at home, actually. The few times we've traveled, I've found that DS is more fussy and harder to get to sleep, so we bedshare instead.
For safety, we get a king sized bed and toss off the pillows. DS sleeps between the two of us since the beds are usually in the middle of the room. When he was super-little, we'd use the snuggle next but he's too big for it now.
We do....I love the IL's, but when we visited they had an old pnp for DS (old is fine) and assured us that it was clean b/c they had sprayed Lysol all over it. Oh. Yep, DS went straight to bed w/ me!!

This. In hotels if possible we get a room with a king and ask for extra pillows. If we end up with 2 doubles, DH and I will sleep in separate beds. At family and friends he'll start the in the PnP so we can visit, and at first waking (which is always much sooner than normal when we travel) he'll come to bed with us.

Everything is so exciting when you're one!
