Wash the shirt before tie-dye?

DD's pre K class is tie-dying shirts for Flag Day and they need to bring in a white shirt.  I found one at Michael's.  Should I wash it before sending it in?

I would. Also, don't use any fabric softener or dryer sheets so it can soak up the dye better.

I would wash it.  It will help the shirt soak up the dye better.
