Breastfeeding

RP: Supply Question

So I am pretty much clueless when it comes to knowing things about breastfeeding - I feed my LO about every 3 hours all day/night. I generally have to wake him up for almost every feeding. He's gaining weight well (had his 2 week appointment today) and the pedi said I don't need to wake him at night to feed him - just wait for him to wake up.

My question is, will my supply adjust after a few days or do I need to get up and pump? If he's not going to eat as often at night, I assume that my supply would eventually adjust. But again, I don't know much about breastfeeding...

Re: RP: Supply Question

  • Your supply will adjust, I would just pump a little ease the pain.  But at that age, my doctor advised me to never let my LO go longer than 5 hours without eating and if he doesn't wake up at to eat after 6 hours to call the doctor.  However, every pedi seems to have different advice.
  • as pp said, you'll adjust.  One of the beauties of BFing - supply adjusts to demand.  As LO starts sleeping longer, you get to sleep longer too!
