Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

Found this house for rent, good neighborhood?

I am so nervous/excited about our possible move to the DFW area!  DH would be teaching at Tarrant County College, SE campus.  This house looks nice and is close to the college.  G W Kennemer Middle School is where my 13 yr old would be going to school.

Anyone know anything about this neighborhood or the schools? Duncanvill is the HS she would eventually be going to if we stayed there.

Re: Found this house for rent, good neighborhood?

  • The link isn't working for me but DH graduated from Duncanville HS in 97.  It was a great school at that time but seems to have gone downhill drastically since then.  DH and I lived with his dad in Cedar Hill in 2005-06 and that area seemed a lot better to me.  Maybe some of the other ladies on this board have more recent experience though.

  • That's what I was afraid of.  I looked some things up about the Duncanville schools and didn't like what I saw.  I am leaning more towards the Arlington or Mansfield schools, but I am having trouble finding reasonable housing.  I need 4 BR, but we need to rent at 1400/mo or less.  It's hard to balance reasonable rent and good schools!

  • I have to agree with PP, I graduated from Duncanville in 96 and it was a great school but by the time my brother graduated in 99 it was already turning bad.  It is not a school that I would ever let my kids go to at this time.  It is huge and there are just too many kids in one place.  Sorry.  Good luck.

  • Mansfield HS and Martin HS (Arlington) are awesome choices if you want to stay on the south side. Young JrH is also pretty good, feeder for Martin. Lamar HS on the north side of Arlington is said to be the "private school of the public schools," great neighborhood and great programs.

If you wanted to buy a home, there are SEVERAL good deals in the south Arlington area. My brother was just in the market and was overwhelmed with the great prices and options.

    Look at these zip codes: 76001, 76017, 76016, 76063 (North Arlington: 76011 and 76012)
