Long cycle gals? — The Bump
Trouble TTC

Long cycle gals?

Coming off of BC, I had some long and jacked up cycles for several months to a year.  However, lately my cycles have been more "normal".  FF gave me CHs on CD14 (no OPK that day) and then took them away when my temp took a nosedive.  We were at DH's parent's house last weekend and this weekend and they keep their house colder than we do, so I don't know what to think.  After FF took away the CHs I started doing OPKs again.  I was just wondering what you gals with long cycles do?  How many days do you do OPKs and what day do you start.  I know alot of you are doing IUI and IVF, but if there is anyone out there still trying the old fashioned way with OPKs that can help?

I was really hoping this cycle would be predictable so if we don't get lucky it won't screw up the BCP and IVF timetable.  Ugh.

Re: Long cycle gals?

  • Long cycles suck. I'm sorry. I have O'd as late as CD70 and as early as CD18. I would start OPKs at CD14 and just keep going until I O'd or my doctor called off the cycle with Provera. It got expensive, but I never found a good alternative, since I never got EWCM and my temps were erratic. Good luck!

  • If you get fertile CM I would start testing whenever you have some. It would help to cut costs a little that way.

  • I have erratic longer cycles. Sometimes my cycles are only 33 days.. sometimes more like 43. I generally would start testing a week after my period would stop and if I used up two sticks without a positive i would go to every other day until i saw a faint line. once i got the faint line i would test everyday until the line went to super visible back to no line. I just didn't want to miss the surge. This cycle is the first time i have been put on provera and am currently in my longest charted cycle of 50 days.
