Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Yet another stupid technician (long)

Last night someone agreed with me (in my Dating Your PG post) that u/s technicians should just shut up and not say anything, and I know PPs have told us about clueless lab technicians who ask if they re expecting, etc., but surely they can't all be this dim, can they???

I went for bloodwork today, my 6th time (4th since start of m/c), so I'm already really pleased to be poked again, nevermind the 30 minute wait even though the place was empty.

She finally sits down and says, "I don't like your paperwork today.  First it gave me a papercut, and now the label is stuck."  I play along, comment on how much papercuts hurt, and pretend to give sh*t, since she's about to put a needle into my vein.  Then she says, "Plus I have a wear a bandage, even under my gloves, since I don't want to get sick."  She then pulls back her lab coat (my arm is still all tied up and waiting), starts rubbing her baby belly, and adds, "I can't take any medicine if I get sick.  Not until she comes out, hee hee..."  FML.

Look lady, people only get betas done for 2 reasons (that I know of)...they want to see them rise, or they want to see them fall.  I'm not smiling, so guess which group I belong to.  STFU and take my blood already.

  • I'm so sorry. People are so incredibly self absorbed that they don't think about the possibilities of why someone is getting bloodwork. You were so strong to keep your mouth shut. I don't know that I would have been able to be as strong. ((Hugs))
  • Wow... that's all I can say.  That, and I'm sorry that happened to you!
  • If she was a tech in your OBs office, I would be calling to fill my OB in on the clueless tech they hired.  Angry  That is inexcuseably unprofessional behavior!

  • She just worked in the lab in my building...so I figure I will either never see her again, or I will run into her in the parking lot and lobby from now on.  It wasn't worth getting into it either way, though it might have been fun to see her squirm Stick out tongue

I'm all about the awkward! I flipped on a nurse one time and I think she probably told the doctor to wear protective clothing because the doctor was super nice and very tentative when she came into the room.
