Consequences of LO sleeping through the night

So LO slept through the night last night as in he went down at 10 p.m. woke up at 3:30 a.m. to nurse then went right back to bed until after 8 a.m.  But at the same time yesterday he refused to take his afternoon nap and was awake from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.  He was so fussy!  But then he slept through the night.  I'm really not sure such a fussy afternoon and evening is worth a few extra hours of sleep at night.

 Anyones else's LO's do this?

Yep, Grant has consistently been sleeping 10-4 and 4:30-7:30 the last two weeks. But since that he barely sleeps in the day and becomes a monster at around 9. However, it's still so much better than being up all night. I think he's just so fussy because he's not sleeping all day anymore. It seems normal and a lot of other ladies say the exact same thing.

  • If my LO who is also 1 month was fussing from 3-10pm I'd bet she was overstimulated and crying from being so tired.  My LO requires that we help her to fall asleep during the day (rocking, quiet time), and night we swaddle and have it dark and quiet and she goes on her own.  So if this was my LO I'd bet she only slept so long at night since she was soooo overtired from being up insanely long.  Thats my kid though.

Same here...my LO will only sleep that long if she is over tired and over stimulated.  It's a toss up.  Do we get more sleep during the night, but only after hours of fussing and crying....or have a happier baby and get up every 3 hours @ night?

  • I wouldn't consider that sleeping through the night, but that's just me.

I wouldn't risk DD being over tired and unhappy for me to get a couple more hours of sleep.
