Baby and Cats

We just picked up our newborn daughter on Monday from her Birth-Grandmother, and it has been a whirlwind of a ride, from being on vacation in the Caribbean one-day, to picking up our daughter the next day.

Just wondering for those of you with cats, were/are you worried the cats are going to jump in the pack 'n play with the baby?  So far, our cats have just sat on the bed and watched her, and sniffed her when we are holding her, but my husband is paranoid the cats will jump in while she is taking a nap or sleeping next to our bed at night!

Any advice?

  • I have 3 cats and none of them jump on my baby (they better not)

One of them, however, has been pissing all over her things and we've been keeping her in the garage lately. We know she is stressed with the baby in the house. Cats tend to do that.

Hopefully your cat reacts well to your baby.

    Congrats btw!

  • Congrats! One of our cats jumped in the cradle once & we firmly told her no & she hasn't done it since. they are really protective of him now, it's cute. if he starts fussing & i can't get to him that very second (if i'm in the bathroom or something) one of them comes & gets me. i was worried about them at first but they really only get close to him when i am holding him so i am right there and watching their every move. they love to purr & rub their heads on him. gl! 1ht

I have 3 cats and they are finally going up to Matthew. They were curious at first, smelling his stuff and watching him but mostly they run away whenever he moves

I was extremely nervous about how our cats would react to DD & they did just fine. We have 2 cats & the younger one is still kind of cared of her =) I was super nervous that they would try & jump in her bassinet or crib, but they never have. GL & congrats on your baby girl, she's beautiful!

  • I've got two cats, one himi and one siamese.  Our himi isn't into jumping into things but the Siamese is into everything. Super curious by nature.  So we set up everything this past week, the crib, the pack n play, the swing, and covered everthing in double sided sticky tape.  Both cats sniffed at the new stuff and then walked away.  Not ONCE did they try to get into anything.  We worried for nothing so far.  We almost WANTED then to jump into stuff just so we didn't feel so silly for worrying so much.   I hope they are this good when LO gets here.
