Seriously! Every single time I go to the dog park I hear "Lucy! Come here Lucy!" Even one of our parenting group buddies has a dog named Lucy.

Poor kid. She'll have to make friends with the Mollys and Sadies.

We have a dog named Reilly (super popular these days for kids) and I feel so bad saying "oh, thats my dog's name".  Growing up our dog was Taylor!  So many Taylors out there. I do not think of Lucy as a dogs name.  It is super cute!

My sister has a cat named Jack. She had him before we were pregnant and picked his name. It never even occurred to me and now it drives me nuts when she says I named him after her cat.

My two dogs are Sierra and Lynzie..... Yeah we love them like kids.

My maiden name is Roscoe and that is a very popular dog name. I gave it to my dog as a middle name, just to be funny.

We named our cat after my BIL as a joke and it was just weird to yell Anthony at the cat so now I call him Jr.

Lucy is a great name. Sport," "Dodger," "Barkley," "Bandit," "Buddy," etc. are "dog" names. Not Lucy. Yes, people commonly name their dogs Lucy, but if you look at this list, of popular dog names, it really closely parallels the popular baby names lists. If people give their pets human names, it's because they like the names. I certainly wouldn't name my dog Esmerelda, but I would name a dog (or a daughter) Lucy, because it's an awesome name. So, take it as a compliment that lots of people like the name.

I agree with the PP: "Lucy" isn't a dog name, it's a people name that someone gave to their dog, lol

I know of at least three people that have dogs named Jack.  They told me so after I told them what our son's name was.  "Oh that's my dog's name!".  Thanks.

I'm not a fan of dog's having people's names.  Especially names that are popular.  When we got our furbaby 3 years ago, we named her Lily because we didn't know a single sould with that name.  Some time passes and I find out that A.) It's my now BFFs sister's name, and  It's a WILDLY popular baby name.  Oh well.  I'll try harder with the next pup.

My furbaby has a "real" name (Wayne) but onyl b/c he was a rescue and that's the name he came with.

A funny story - my IL's got a dog and named him Desmond. The funny thing is is that it's DH's brother's FIL's name. DH's SIL always hated that they named the dog after her dad.

There are so many dogs in our family with "people" names that it really ruled out a lot of names I liked for DD.

My name is Molly and it was the #`1 dog name for years.

I had a difficult time naming DD.  I work in a vet clinic and every name DH said he liked I corralated to an animal at work.
