Hi there, I think I only posted once or twice on the knot, but now that I'm a mom, I need your help. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a pediatric ophthalmologist? My son has been diagnosed with strabismus (crossed eyes) and will need surgery. The doctor we've seen basically refused to answer our questions regarding my son's outlook and what challenges he may face (its treatable, not curable). Anyway, my husband and I left the appointment appalled and are looking for recommendations. Our pedi gave us a few names, but I'd really like some feedback on personal experiences, specifically someone who will answer parent questions.
I had/have strabismus as a kid and had surgery. I grew up in NJ and was treated in NYC. I just took my son to Forsyth Eyecare and we saw Dr. Glenda Brown, she is the pediatric specialist in their office. She was great with my son. Depending on what happens with his follow up visit I may fly up to NY to have my pediatric eye dr look at him. She treated me for 20 years and did both of my surgeries. Anyway, feel free to e-mail me if you want to talk about challenges and living with it, etc..Maybe I can answer some questions that you have. I have also heard good things about Dr. Burland at Thomas Eye Group but we never went to see him. My e-mail is mrsL1022 at gmail. Sorry that you had a lousy appointment and didn't get answers you want.
My son has Nystagmus so we've been doing our research on Pediatric Opthalmologist.
Thomas Eye Group is suppose to be the best in Atlanta. People actually drive in from Alabama, SC and TN to go there. We see Dr. Lipsky there. We went for a second opinion with Dr. Pollard (different practice). I think Dr. Pollard was able to get a better look at my son's eyes, but he was also three months older.
We moved to the area in february and Dr. Lipsky was recommended by our ped. opth back in NC. Teagan has accommodative estropia (crossed eye) and has had various treatments including surgery. Feel free to pm if you ever need to chat.
I believe my brother had surgery for this when he was almost 5 years old. This was 25 years ago. Dr. Pollard was his surgeon, I believe. That name sounds really familiar. His office was in Roswell but that was some time ago. He continued to be his eye doctor, though, until about middle school or maybe even high school so I guess my parents liked him. His eyesight is pretty good now. He was nearsighted slightly afterwards and it gradually changed to be just a little farsighted now.
DD also has accomadative esotropia/ strasbismus. We took her to Dr. Pollard first and hated him He is supposed to be really good, but he had no bedside manner and we just didn't like him. We went to see Dr. Christina Weeks and we really like her. DD doesn't mind her looking at her eyes and she's just really good with little ones. We've since moved to Savannah, but have been continuing to go see Dr. Weeks for now since we like her. DD can't have surgery for her strabismus, so I can't answer any questions on that end.
Derek has a slight nystagmus and we've been seeing a ped. opthamologist in Macon since we're on the southside. Just wanted to say good luck and I wish you the best.

We saw Dr. Lipsky as well and he was great!
