Babies: 3 - 6 Months

rotavirus

Anyone not get this vaccination? I guess it wasn't available at our immunization clinic when LO had her 2 month shots, so I asked the tech at this last appointment and he told me it was too late for her to get them. He asked if she was in DC and I said no, and he said if she's not it shouldn't be a big problem. But...what if she ends up in DC?

Re: rotavirus

  • We didn't get it... but it wasn't purposely.  By the time i brought her in to get the 1st round, she was past the recommended age for the 1st round. So, i'm crossing my fingers!

  • I would get it ~RV is really dangerous and easily passed ( through feces). I would ask your ped about this, not the tech IMO.

I asked the immunizations guy who actually gave the shots. I brought it up to the pedi and she was under the impression that we would still be able to get it. The immunizations guy told us that there is a very small window that they are able to give it to babies and we missed it.

You cannot get the vaccination if you've missed the first dose.

  • to add to my post, i called our public health office to verify the cut off age and they stated it was 14 weeks and 6 days.  Afterwards, they don't have enough studies to determine its effect on babies older.  Quite honestly, i say that i'm crossing my fingers but i'm not going to stress out about it.  It's a leading killer for babies in third world countries because of their unsanitary conditions.  I did tell our daycare that she wasn't immunized for it and ask that they take extra precautionary measures with cleanup with stools, etc.

I'm not stressing about it either, mostly because I have no plans for DC anytime soon and if she does go it will only be a day or two a week. Good to know that they were accomadating to it, although...I would hope they're good with cleaning up poop in the first place! lol
