Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS-new to me

Hi ladies,

So i just had my exam and bloodwork done, since I'm just at about sixty days with no period.  Well, it turns out I have PCOS.  Went back in to have a fasting glucose test this morning, and am waiting on those results tomorrow.  The doc's office gave me a pamphlet, and other than the standard "might be hard to get pregnant", didn't say much.

Basically, just looking for some insight and guidance from you all.  I know there are a lot of you here who have it as well.  Anything would help!

 Thank you

  • Hi and Welcome! Sorry to hear about your dx. I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 weeks ago. It's scary to hear that something is wrong. My doctor put me on metformin and I'm hopeful that it's working. Hopefully your dr will be able to give you some answers! The girls here are awesome and very helpful!

Thank you so much!  You are gorgeous as well.  And yeah, I think he's pretty hot... :)

Thanks for your help ladies.  It's kind of scary, especially with no real information.  I will check out the TTTC boards.  Just wasn't sure if it would be too early for me to go there, since we're just starting out.

  • Sorry about the dx hon.  I was dx in 2007 and am on 1500 mg of Metformin.  There is a PCOS check-in (there was a link to it this morning) that you should try to be a part of.  Some of the ladies on there have lots of info in their siggys and there is always a Question of the Day that is very informative.

If you have any specific questions, just let me know!  I'll be more than happy to answer or point you in the right direction.

  • So sorry for your diagnosis! I was diagnosed more than a month ago with PCOS, and from what I understand, it all depends on the person how PCOS affects them. For me, I don't really ovulate on my own, so it means starting Clomid this month. Metformin wasn't a good option for me, but your doc may also suggest that. There are a ton of ladies on here with great advice on PCOS. Hope you are one of the lucky ones with PCOS where it doesn't really affect your fertility!

  • I was diagnosed last June, but this is our first cycle TTC, second cycle charting. I'm in a limbo stage as well, b/c my gyno wants me to still TTC for a year before going straight to metformin and clomid. I talked with another doc in the practice who wants me to come in if I'm not pg by August.

The PCOS bio/check-in is very informative as well as soulcysters.net.

    GL!

  • I have PCOS, got pg with #1 on metformin alone. If you want to get PG now, then go straight to the RE and don't waste your time at the OBGYN.  A dr will prescribe you a combo of metformin and clomid so that you can O. if you haven't had AF the dr will prescribe you a drug to get it going.
  • I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis! It is really tough to hear. I am in the process of going through all the bloodwork and getting diagnosed with PCOS as well.  I found a lot of information on webmd as well as the ladies on here. Good luck to you, I hope your stay is short and sweet! I am thinking about checking out the PCOS check in as well...maybe I will see you around!

  • Thank you all so very much.  It's sad this isnt talked about much outside of fertility, and that so many of us go around for years having something that can cause so many problems!  I really appreciate the support and am going now to check out the PCOS check in.

My doc put me on prometrium but no talks about metformin or anything yet...but I am still waiting on the glucose test results.
