So yesterday when I picked up LO at daycare they asked if he was in the Parents as Teachers program and I said yes. I kept wondering all night why they asked this and so I asked today. Today she said well "I wondered about his eyes and him being stiff." I know about his eyes, he has bilateral colabomas and we are already of how to deal with it and saw an eye Dr. at one week old and will again at 6 months old. What I don't know is what she was talking about him being stiff. LO is a wiggle worm and always kicking and moving. He is rolling over well back to tummy, but still struggles a bit with belly to back. He can sit up on his own for a few seconds at a time and for a long while if holding on. He also can stand up well when someone is holding his hands. Any guesses what she meant?
Re: Weird daycare comment
She may have meant that he seems 'hypertonic" which means high muscle tone or tightness.
Babies that are 'hypOtonic" have low muscle tone and are floppy or have noodle arms/legs.
Maybe it is harder to get your LO to straighten his legs or arms when changing him? That is the only time I would think she would notice. I would ask for a clarification. It may be that the two issues raised a red flag to her. Maybe she had a kid in the past with other or unrelated special needs and she wanted to make sure you were aware of her observations. This is a good thing. She is paying attention to your baby and advocating for him in case you are unaware of the issues.
