Parenting after 35

what do you guys do all day?

First time moms...if the baby is sleeping, house work is all done (or you're just being lazy) what do you do all day?

me, i'm always on the internet.  checking emails, bumping, FB...etc.  sometimes I feel like I waste my day being unproductive.  This is why i'm looking forward to go back to work.  I'm not so sure I can be a SAHM.

What do you guys do?

  • you're not tired?

when I was home on maternity leave, I slept when she did and if I wasn't tired, I'd blog, Facebook, work on organizing pictures of her on the computer, do laundry, clean, watch TV. But mostly I napped when she did. I was friggin TIRED during maternity leave!!

  • Well, my DD only takes one 1.5 hour nap/day, so I usually use her nap as down-time.  The rest of the day we go for walks, the playground, library, run errands, etc.  The pace of the day is by no means hectic, but we're pretty busy, so I never feel guilty about having a little time to myself.

I have been spending more time reading, and less time on the computer.

Try to enjoy it, relax, and build up your reserves for when you go back to work :)

OMG all I do is Bump!  LOL. Or I get motivated to do laundry, make DD's bottles, do the dishes, (god forbid I actually exercise!!), make phone calls. I have to make sure the house is in order when DH gets home so he doesn't think I layed around all day. Ha!

And I don't really nap now b/c I've never been a "napper" and DD is sleeping about a 5 hour stretch and then another 2-3 hour stretch.

I am same as you, sorta looking forward to going back to work too, just so I feel more productive.

  • I knit, surf the Web, write TY notes, make phone calls, cook, bake, clean the house, do laundry, etc.

Sometimes it seems like I'll be bored, but I never get everything done.

I know I am not a first time mom - but when it is a lazy sort of day where everyone is napping (never happens) but sometimes I will just read while my oldest plays. Plus I figure it is good for him to see me read too ; )  But I think there is always something for me to do - fold laundry, dishes, get everything ready for school for the next day (outfits for the boys so we are not looking for stuff in the rush of the morning), vaccuum, the list goes on & on.

This never happens in my house. We are constanly renovating so there is always more to do than I can get done.

  • At first, I'd cook elaborate stuff (I love cooking) or play video games.  Now that she's older, I get a little more sleep, but a lot less "free" time.

I clean, I cook, I try to catch up on facebook and the bump, and if I'm very lucky, I play "Battle of Wesnoth."

    :)

  • Right now I am still recovering from my c-section but as soon as I am better, I have plans to do things that I can not do while at work.  I am enjoying just being home with Michael.  I do not have to go back to work until August 12th so I have some time to get things done I need to.  My Husband has been great to do all the heavy lifting and most of the cooking when he gets home from work.

  • Where do I begin?!  Aside from having G with me all day...clean, cook, garden, laundry, TV, walks, computer

I have some friends (SAHM) that I try to hook up with once/week.

  • God, I wasn't bored a single minute during my maternity leave. I only had 8 weeks so I was constantly: preparing formula, pumping, cleaning and organizing as best I could. When the baby slept I either took a shower, ate or took a nap, usually there wasn't time for all 3! I was online a little bit but honestly, I didn't have (and still don't) have time for anything.
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • All the household stuff previously mentioned, errands, play dates for mommy, visit the grandparents every few days, knit, bump, etc.  DD and I either go for a walk or swim together almost every day as well, unless there's just been too much other stuff.  I agree with Dr. Loretta - some times it's seems like I'd be bored and miss my job, but I haven't been bored (not always excited about what needs to get done) and have yet to wake up and wish to be at work.
