eczema moms....a silly ?

i have been putting DD in a short sleeve plain white onesie under her outfits thinking this is protecting her skin (protecting it from what i don't know)....but now that it is so hot should i just forget the plain onesie and let her skin breathe??

i guess i think of the onesie as underwear...i feel like she looks naked without it on.

  • Yes - skip the extra layer bc you want her to be cool since I believe heat can aggravate eczema.

I've considered the same thing, but of course this morning I noticed that her arms and legs are more rashy than her back, belly and shoulders.  so I guess her onsie is protecting her somewhat from whatever it is in my house that is triggering the eczema.  I hate her skin, it's a constant battle!!

  • i never put my daughter in a white onesie under her clothes, it makes it too tight and adds to many layers which makes them hotter and triggers the excema. luckily my daughter had it on her arms and now its cleared up and *knock on wood* hasnt come back
  • I used to keep her covered as much as possible (per the allergist and pedi's advice).  Now that it is warmer, I don't.  She wears dresses almost every day now.  Her back always seems to have flare ups, but I don't know what else to do.  She is too hot in pants and a onesie.

    This exactly.

  • In this heat I will just dress LO in a onesie, nothing else.  Heat can make the eczema worse so I want him to stay cool. Also, my pedi told me to put vaseline on him instead of lotion, so I've been putting vaseline on his belly, chest, and back for a couple weeks now and his eczema is almost completely gone! Skin is finally smooth again!

  • You should really consider trying Halo's Technical Comfort clothing. I copied this from Halo's website:

    • The National Eczema Association (NEA) has awarded the Seal of Acceptance to HALO? Technical Comfort System?.  The NEA Seal of Acceptance is awarded to products intended for children and adults with eczema or sensitive skin.
    • Soft, silky feel is friction free and helps reduce irritation and itching
    • Fast drying.  Helps regulate body temperature for greater comfort
    • Helps prevent skin rashes by wicking moisture from delicate skin
    • Smooth seams prevent irritation at pressure points
    • SPF 30
    • Parents of children with sensitive skin conditions report marked improvements with regular wear
