Help - DD is on strike!

DD nursed fine for her first 2 feedings today (6:30 and 10:30) then absolutely screamed when I tried to feed her at 2:30 and 6:30.  I fed her solids at 3:30 and she did ok with that and she took about 3 oz. in a bottle at 6:30 before screaming again.  I am afraid she will get dehydrated as it is super hot and humid here.  Her wet diapers today were not very wet even before she decided to stop eating.  WDYT?

Re: Help - DD is on strike!

  • I just wanted to say that I feel your pain... DD has been rejecting the breast on and off for almost a week now. She went a day and a half, then snapped out of it, then had a few more horrible feedings, then started pulling away and crying again today. I've met with the LCs three times in 10 days! They seem very calm about it, but I'm a total mess! How obsessed are you with watching the diapers?!? I can't stop! They told me to nurse on demand- not to try and lead her to the breast or force the feeding. They said nurse when she was sleepy- so I rocked her to sleep and then fed her as she was dozing. That worked! I also tried changing positions, since every time I went to lower her into the cross cradle, she hollered. I am not very good at the side lying position, but that worked the best. We have her sleeping in a co-sleeper, so when she would get restless at night I would dream feed. The LC said try to avoid bottles- and boy do I wish I listened to that advice, b/c now she has developed a preference for them over my "Slow Flos". I guess you could try expressed breast milk by spoon or dropper if she's missing too many feedings. They told me no more than 5 hours (DD is 4 months old). It stinks but I guess they pass in a day or two, so says Kelly mom. I think this was my hardest week as a new momma because of it, though. For the first time ever, DD lost weight. :(Just be sure to pump often to keep your supply up - after feedings is what they told me. I try not to let it go more than 3 hours.  Tonight I pumped and she finally wanted to nurse 20 minutes later. Argh! Of course I had nothing much for her, so she was even more displeased with my offerings! Good luck and hang in there!
