You would THINK that since I'm tired I should go to bed....(long and rambling)

So, here's the background:
LO bed-shares and has woken up more and more frequently the last few weeks (4-month wakefuls?).  Typical night at the moment is every 2 hours to nurse for 1/2 hour...Yikes.  I've been using tips from NCSS, etc., but it wasn't improving, so I asked the pedi for any additional advice.  "Put him in his own room."  Okay, no thanks, bed-sharing is the highlight of my day, go away pedi.  I'd rather bed-share and be sleepy.  Decided to just muscle through it....

Current situation:
Usually DS and I do the bedtime routine and then go to bed together.  He jabbers and kicks and squirms beside me for about 20 minutes and then he's out....for 2 hours at the max.  BUT, the last 2 nights DH did bedtime routine with DS while I was on the computer and before I knew it, DS was sleeping in his ARCS having gone to sleep without the comfort-nurse, without me in the room.  And slept for 4 hours.

Oh hooray!!!  (we think......)   .....And then the horrible realization....does he sleep better in a separate bed from me?  Say it ain't so....This could just be a coincidence, right?

So here I am, tired but not going to bed b/c DS is sleeping fine in his ARCS and I am up stewing about the fact that maybe he doesn't love bed-sharing as much as I do.....sigh.

  • It could be the start of the four month wakeful and it could just be that he likes his own space.  While it's sad for us, it's a natural progression for him.

And hey, more sleep with no crying is a huge success!

  • You are totally right....I should be grateful we've found out something that works for him!  My sister warned me that babies in our family were more independent than they were cuddly....good thing DH is a snuggler, haha!

  • Hugs. Maybe you should try not bed sharing for a couple of nights and then see how you feel about it. Maybe if you are both more rested, it might be worth giving it up.
  • Thanks, Mrs. B....We are going to try it....Last night he ended up not sleeping at all after that first stretch b/c of tummy stuff, poor guy.  I realized how dumb and selfish it is for me to be so concerned about what I want.  The only thing that's really important is his sleep...
