Adoption

I got laid off today

I am too physically and emotionally exhausted to go into details, but my company significantly downsized today.  I was impacted.  We have a post-placement visit scheduled for Monday. How do I approach this with the agency?

I am the primary wage earner, and I am very, very scared about what this will mean for our adoption.

  • I don't have any advice but I just wanted to say I'm really sorry!  I am afraid of being downsized also at my company.  I really hope that this doesn't affect anything with your adoption.  T &Ps coming your way.

  • That really stinks.  I'm in the secondary market and the last 3 banks I have worked for closed/downsized and I've lost my job.  Everything happens for a reason and you're never given more then you can handle.  :: HUGS ::

    hi im sorry you are going through this. my husband also lost his job and we had 2 post placements  visit. we just told our social worker what happened and that we were receiving unemployment benefits.   it did not stop or hold up anything regarding the adoption or the finalization.
  • I'm so sorry to hear this and I'm sure it won't impact your adoption.  I've been holding my breath for the last 2 weeks to find out if I still have a job or not (I'm a teacher) with the cuts in our district and thankfully, I do.  Good luck to you!

  • I'm so sorry to hear that. It must have really thrown you for a loop.

    I agree with everyone else, I don't think this will affect your adoption. Let your SW know what's going on and I'm sure they can give you feedback.

    I hope you find something new soon.

  • Good luck! I hope it doesn't affect your adoption!

  • Thanks everyone. I'm glad to hear that you don't think it will impact the adoption.  I can handle unemployment.  I've handled much worse in my life. I would NOT be able to handle giving our baby back. I guess we'll see what the SW says Monday.

    The thing that really upsets me is that I believe I would still be employed if I hadn't gone out on leave.  I understand that layoffs happen.  I've laid off quite a few people myself, unfortunately. However, in this particular case, I feel very wronged. :(

  • I'm so sorry.  I have no good advice, but please post and let us know how your agency handles this.  I'm curious, as I'm the primary wage earner and have wondered what would happen if I lost my job during our six months of post placement visits.
  • I am so sorry you are dealing with this. {hugs}
