Twin Movement Question

I'm just over 22 weeks with b/g twins. Until yesterday (Thursday) morning, the beans were moving all over the place, especially after I ate. I was feeling all sorts of squirms, bubble popping sensations, pokes, etc. On Wednesday night, I felt like they were moving so much that my stomach was stretching, and it was really painful and now i can see that my stomach is a bit bigger. However, by the time I got out of bed yesterday, it all stopped except maybe 1-2 times yesterday, but that could have been my imagination. I even ate extra chocolate and juice hoping it would get them moving but it didn't work.

This morning, I was so worried about it that I drank a diet coke around 4:30am, and that seemed to get them moving. I could see baby girl moving across my belly as a large lump and baby boy occassionally would give me a poke. Today, they seem to be moving a bit more, but still no where near as active as earlier this week. Definitely not lots of pokes. More like rolls here and there, and in mainly feels like baby girl (who is up higher above my belly button).

Anyone else experience this? Shoudl I be concerned that both of them aren't moving as much today? Or, is this totally normal for 22 weeks?

That is what I experienced as well so I vote for normal.

  • I notice more movement some days and others that can be pretty quiet.  But if your really concerned then you should call your doctor, you know what's normal and only your doctor can help you anyway.

GL - oh and I know orange juice or something like that will get them moving too.

Ditto this. There were (and still are) days when I am concerned because I don't feel them move as much. Sometimes I give them a gentle nudge or like PP suggested drink some OJ or other sugary drink. The day after my glucose test they were going berserk nearly all day long, the next day they really slowed down a lot. I was scared but I think they were just coming off their 'sugar high' and were back to normal activity from then on. GL!

  • I think it is pretty normal. I have days where my babies are pretty quiet and then other days where they are rolling around like crazy.

Like the others, I think it's pretty normal. I'll have some days where it feels like they never quit moving but others days when they're really quiet. As long as they respond to a nudge, belly jiggle, or sugary drink/snack I consider it to be normal.

  • Like others have said, it sounds normal to me.  As they grow it changes sometimes with how it feels.  As long as you are feeling them you are good.  :)
  • I have the same experience.  My DD moves SO much more than DS and that gets me worried.  But at my last U/S it showed that DS was facing my back, so when he kicks it's into my back and I don't feel it as much, and is nothing to worry about.  Could be the same thing for you, they just aren't in a good position for you to feel them move.  When I get too worried and I want to "check" on them, drinking OJ or ice cold water always gets them going!

  • Thanks to everyone! I called my dr, just so I wouldn't be a basketcase over the weekend, and he had me come in since I'd tried all the usual tricks. The nurse got out the doppler and found two beautiful heartbeats (142 and 154 bpm), and said I was fine. Apparently my beans don't like to respond to juice or poking since that didn't work, but I just had a yogurt and now they are rocking and rolling.
