Trying to Get Pregnant

Dr. appt & DH

I guess my doc is sick of my whinning about the spotting and my cycles getting longer each month. He's finally bringing me in for a consult to look at charts & everything else and I guess schedule blood work.

I'm not quite sure what to expect and am a bit nervous. Would your DH go with you? Would you want him to?

I wouldn't feel like I needed to bring my DH for that, and he would probably be thankful for it too!

I hope you get some answers!

  • I have an appointment scheduled for the end of August, if I'm not pregnant by then, and DH is actually insisting on going. I guess it is whatever you as a couple are comfortable with.

I brought DH with me when we went for that type of appointment and it just overwhelmed him.  BUT he was thankful for getting to be part of the process.  If I had to do it over, I would bring him again.
  • I don't think I'd ask DH to come, but I'd make sure he understood what happened at the appointment.

My DH came to my RE appointment and he was pretty quiet.  From all my research, I knew what to expect - CD 3 bloodwork, HSG, hormone levels, possibly Clomid and an IUI, etc.  I didn't ask the doctor to explain any of the terms, and I left knowing exactly what was going to happen.

DH did not.  He said he felt totally lost in the "alphabet soup" of CD, LH, HSG, LPD, etc.  He said that he realized he had counted on me to know how we'd proceed, but it bothered him feeling like he was in the dark when it comes to actual treatment.

Anyway, sorry for the super long response.  I think it's just important to remember that we know what to expect in these appointments, and we don't need the doctors to explain the procedures because we already know what they are.  Our DHs usually don'T!

This is exactly what I'm worried about. He seems to want to go but I think everything will overwhelm him.

Since it's my first appointment I don't really know what to expect. I know what I want to hear and what I want them to do but thats usually completly different then what they want to do!

I think this time I'm going to go on my own so I can get a feel for everything then explain it to DH in his terms and we'll go from there.

    Thanks ladies!

  • I wouldn't bring my DH. I don't see what the good in having him there would be.
