If you had a boy, then girl

What were your limits on boy clothes/things you would use for your girl?

I'm going to keep all blue onesies and pjs.  What about blue winter boots, coats, mittens?  Is there any way to girl them up, or would you just buy new things?  I'm excited to have a girl, and I'll probably buy a lot of new things, but it's going to get expensive!

Re: If you had a boy, then girl

  • I just reused DSs newborn or 0-3 month size sleepers. Everything else he had was too boy-ish. We bought a lot of new stuff, but I consider it an investment in any future kids we may have; now either a boy or girl would have clothes.

  • I went through W's clothes the other day.  I pulled out most of his sleepers, NB gowns, plain colored turtlenecks/shirts and overalls.  I also had 1 or 2 outfits that were neutral that I'd bought before I knew I was having a boy.

I've gone a little crazy on eBay buying girl clothing!  Watch there for good deals, then it doesn't sting as bad to spend the $$.

  • I have found that I had to have pink things when she first came home.  I would do a lot of laundry to even avoid neutral clothing.  I can tell the pink novelty has worn off a bit- now she wears neutral and boy stuff too.

If you have the room just keep it around.

  • i have a lot of hand me downs from my sisters 3 girls, and lots of outfits my mom and friends got for me. But as for Finn's stuff, I took out all neutral nb stuff, and figure anything that's PJ's doesnt have to be girly.

  • DD wears almost all of DS's clothes that fit in the appropriate season. The only things she doesn't wear say "boy" or "handsome" on them. I bought her plenty of bows and headbands and she wears them often-especially in her more neutral or boyish outfits. Buying girl clothes is fun, but I haven't bought many duplicates-I do have some fabric glitter on hand, but I haven't bedazzled anything yet.
  • DS was a surprise and they were born in the same season so I pulled out all the gender neutral stuff and DD wore most of that :)
  • My DD wears most of the white onesies, t-shirts, and some PJs/sleepsacks, and pants but I had to buy some new basics as they were born in different seasons. From 3 months on, most of DS's outfits IMO are too boyish to put on DD. DD's closet is full of girly clothes, but most were purchased via end-of-season sales so it helps with saving $$ (I got DD a full snowsuit--coat and pants--for $10 at Kohls). I've also consigned some of DS's clothes (and will do the same with DD) and get some $$ back.
  • Yeah, I was the one that got rid of every boy or neural thing as soon as I found out I was having a little girl.  THe practical side of me said to reuse some, but the excited side of me said "pink, pink, pink!!".  So I started picking up girl things here and there from the moment we found out (17 weeks), and actually got lots of girl things from the grandparents too.  People just like buying girl clothes so I don't feel like I actually had to buy that much.  (and no, I did not have any showers for #2)
  • Same as most: Onesies and PJ's don't matter. As far as the other clothes, as long as the blue ones don't look too boyish then blue bows in her hair??? : )
