Pregnant after 35

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Really!?!  Don't I have enough pain??? LOL.

Anyway, did anyone else get this?  How did you treat it?  Does it go away after baby is born?

Thanks!

Re: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Oh yeah. I lived in wrist braces before DD#1 was born. It did get better until I got nursing mom's wrist issues and had to go to physical therapy and again live in a wrist brace on my left hand. That actually hurt more than the carpal tunnel.

  • Oh, I had this very bad with my first pregnancy.  I wore wrist braces and tried to sleep on an incline with my arms stretched out straight.  My doc said something about when you lie down at night everything moves up into your arms and I can remember the pain would wake me up at night.

Unfortunately, it can actually get worse after you have the baby.  I remember not being able to snap my son's onesies or turn on lamps because I lost all feeling in my thumb and forefinger.  After three months my ob suggested seeing a hand specialist but then it gradually started getting better and probably by six months post-partum I was back to normal.

    I know it's super frustrating.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I also had it with DS.  I wore the wrist braces daily, even though my OB recommended that I only wear them for a few hours each day.  It took a few weeks for it to go away after DS was born.  I know that as my fluid/weight decreased, it seemed to get better.  That (and charley horses) were the most painful parts of pregnancy for me.
