Breastfeeding

16 months and weaning.

I don't usually post on this board so I apologize if this is asked a lot.

I have been EBF for 16 months. I only nurse him in the morning and before bed now. However, lately he pitches a fit right before bed time to nurse. I can't get set up fast enough for him. He will pull at my shirt and he will constantly sign for "more" or "milk". Then he will only nurse for about 30 seconds. So I put everything away then, a few minutes later he will want to nurse again and he throws a fit again until he is back on.  This cycle will continue until I just walk out of the room and let DH finish up with the nightly routine.

I decided I would quit when it was right for us. And I am thinking I am finished because I don't want to fight with him every night. Does anyone have any tips or books that will help us smoothly transition?

Re: 16 months and weaning.

  • i can relate. I've found that the best way is to start the night time routine, dinner, bath, book etc and then let DH put DS to bed (rocking/singing etc). that was the easiest way for us to get rid of the bedtime nursing.

GL!! I weaned my DS almost a week ago and he still tries to get into my shirt a couple times a day. So i know its not easy to wean but you have to stick to your guns. Its not worth the daily battles and there are other ways to cuddle/bond at this age. He'll adapt soon enough.
