Eco-Friendly Family

help us move in an EF way ...

I'm searching for any and all ways to make our move as earth friendly as possible ... we saved boxes from when we moved into our apartment, so we're using those, I'm not buying any packing materials, going to use newspaper or clothes to protect fragile items ...

Any other suggestions?  We're only moving about 12 miles away, so it's not a long move.

Re: help us move in an EF way ...

  • I always wrap all our stuff in towels, sheets, ect...When we've made short moves I've always made sure that no matter what I'm going to the new place for (cleaning, paiting, meeting a repair or utility person) I have a load full of stuff.....We've  moved 8 times in 6 years, so I should have a lot more, but thats all I can think of right now...

we got boxes from work, used clothes to wrap everything and paid a college kid with lunch to help us load/unload.  sounds like you're already doing everything as EF as possible.  the biggest un-EF thing we did when moving was crank the AC to keep us cool and use a ton of cleaning products because our house was FUNKY.

  • It sounds like you're pretty well covered.  The only other things I'd recommend are planning ahead for meals and cleaning.  If you don't it's easy to grab takeout on paper plates or reach for the paper towels.  If you pack the few dishes you'll need plus some sandwich supplies and a bunch of cleaning rags in one box to bring over first you won't run into this problem.
