Do you wear nursing shirts?

I wear only nursing tanks, no bras.  And I lift my top shirt up.  I wear the tanks because I hate my stomach to be exposed.

I got an email from Motherhood Maternity today.  I thought I was done with that dreadful store but they had tons of nursing shirts that look cute and convenient.

Do you wear nursing shirts?

Re: Do you wear nursing shirts?

  • nope.  I do pretty much the same as you.  I occasionally wear a nursing bra rather than tank if I'm going to be home with no visitors (and therefore no one will see my lovely tummy :-D)

One of the reasons I love BF is the money it saves.  I personally don't want to spend money on nursing tops.

  • I have a few, I don't find them any more convenient than wearing a tank under my shirt.
  • I love Majamas shirts - but they're expensive. I got 2 second-hand. I like not having to expose my belly and most of their styles make it so you can barely tell you're nursing. I only wear nursing tanks to bed.

I have a couple but for the most part, I do what you do.  For me the shirts are hit or miss - meaning, sometimes they hit right @ the nipple and sometimes not.  One of the cute t-shirts I have from Motherhood Maternity takes some much maneuvering to get my nipple out - it' sjust too uncomfortable - esp. when you're out.
  • I got a nursing hoodie from Motherhood when it was the dead of winter and that way I was a little more covered up than only wearing a nursing tank.  In hindishgt I could have just done the nursing tank with a reg zip up hoodie on top t stay warm . Live and learn.

I have spent quite a bit of money on 3 glamourmom tanks, 1 glamourmom night gown, 1 glamourmom nursing tankini (my mom lives in FL) and 2 miracle camis.

I dont regret it, they make my life so darn easy.

  • I have 2 nursing shirts from Gap and they're ok.  I usually wear a nursing bra under a regular shirt.  If I nurse in public, I use a cover and it hides my stomach, so I don't mind the regular shirt.  I wear my nursing tanks to sleep because I hate wearing bras to sleep.
  • I like the nursing shirts because the Target tanks are too short.  I did get two long tanks that attach to any nursing bra from undercovermama, so i wear them under a lot of shirts.  However, the best "nursing shirts" that I got were actually just "wrap-style" tops from walmart.com - not meant for nursing, but they pulled aside for easy access.  They were also $6 on clearance, but they are longsleeved, so I'm stuck for summer.

  • when i bf this next time around i'd really like to get some good nursing gear (shirts/jammies, etc).  i did buy 2 shirts (from motherhood maternity i believe) when i had my first baby and i hardly ever wore them.  the way they were cut was just weird (fabric openings right over the nipple).  i would try to wear a nursing bra under them to avoid the 'friction' but that was so awkward to get my bra undone through the shirt (the 'built in bra' really wasn't enough support anyway for heavy milk jugs, even though i wasn't enormous).

anyway, this time i just need to do some more research.  i will esp. want to be fully covered for winter time w/a newborn.

  • I have 2 that I received as gifts and I really like them. I also like the fact that they don't scream "nursing shirt". When I don't wear one but am going to be out and about and don't want my stomach/side/back showing I do like you and wear a nursing tank under my regular shirt.
  • I wear nursing bras and regular tops in public and nursing tanks/leisure nursing bras at home.

When I'm at work, my Medela Freestyle pump directly attaches to my nursing bras so I can pump hands free.  When I NIP, I usually use a bebe au lait cover, so I don't worry about showing my stomach.

I practically lived in my Glamourmom Nursing Bra Tanks, you know what some women are not so keen on the idea of purchasing nursing wear.  But for me it was one of the best investments for my child.  I knew I was saving a lot of money on formula so I invested some of that into a couple of tanks that would last be through and through.

At the end of the day by wearing Glamourmom nursing bra tanks allowed me to nurse longer than I anticipated.

    LOVE them :)

  • I think if you are only going to nurse a couple of months... it's probably not worth it- but I usually nurse my kids about 2 years-  and 100% of the time during those two years- I'm a nursing mom... so why should I think that buying nursing top as opposed to any other top- is an "extra" expense... if I wasn't nursing- I certainly would buy myself several new shirts for each season during those years.  It's not like I have to buy two different wardrobes... when i'm nursing- I'm not spending money on clothes that are not boobacessable.  Nursing clothing can be a little more pricy than shopping at a trendy teen store where shirts are $5... but they are no more expensive than any regular women's mall clothing shop like the Limited or the Gap... or mail order catalog shirts from LL Bean or J Crew.

I get the motherwear catalog... but usually find their stuff painfully boring and plain.  I also buy cheap colorful camis and tanks (sometimes cutting slots in them) for layering so I can do the pull up/down/aside thing with fashion tops I already own.

I recently heard of this brand and think they have some nice items:
