No decongestants. Now what?

I have a ton of chest and sinus congestion. I am using a neti pot for my sinuses but what else can I do? I'm miserable here.

Re: No decongestants. Now what?

  • I used small amounts of Vicks Vapor Rub and finally gave in and took Sudafed.

  • Vicks.

Or peppermint EO.  One drop on your finger and put back as far as you can on the roof of your mouth...but it has to be a therapeutic grade EO for this trick.

Otherwise you can use lavender, lemon, peppermint or eucalyptus for aromatherapy to help.

  • This is going to sound crazy, but before you go to bed slather vicks on the soles of your feet and throw some socks on.

Otherwise, I'd do benadryl or sudafed. Is there any reason you can do decon?

I was always told no decon when PG or BFing.

Claritin, zyrtec, benadryl, tylonel sinus and sudafed are all on my OBs list of safe stuff.

  • Sudafed does restrict blood flow to the placenta, but when absolutely needed is ok. Some docs don't allow it at all, some have it on the safe list (mine does). I take it only when I'm out of my gourd miserable. Otherwise (like right now) I use the neti pot and vick's baby rub just under my nose.
