No Ultrasounds

I am 35 weeks 5 days and I have not had an ultrasound since 21 weeks when we found out the sex of LO.  Is this weird?  The only thing my DR does during our appts is measure my stomach, listen to the heartbeat, do a UA and check my blood pressure.  It seems like everyone else knows how their baby is growing and how they are positioned and I know nothing of the sort.  Anyone else not know anything by this time?

If everything is great then the doctor will not do an u/s later in pregnancy.  Many women don't get another u/s after their anatomy u/s.

The only reason I had an u/s at 36 weeks was because my OB felt my stomach/LO and thought that LO was breech. If she hadn't thought she was breech, I wouldn't have had an u/s this late.

For a normal healthy pregnancy there is usually only one ultrasound.  Most insurances won't cover more than one unless there is a problem.

I has the anatomy scan at 18.5 weeks and not another u/s since.  My Dr. will only do additional ones if they think something is wrong.

My last u/s was at 27 weeks and that was only because they needed to do some follow up measurements on the heart.  My appointments are basically the same as yours.  I think it's pretty normal.

Not weird.  I had one at 19w4d and will not have another one unless medically necessary.

I go to a midwife practice, but we have not had an u/s since 21 weeks. They will only do one if there is a concern re: growth, preterm labor, possible early break in water, movement issues, or something was found on the previous u/s that causes concern. We do know how our baby is positioned-by feeling my belly. If I go past 40 weeks we will have a NST and u/s to make sure everything is okay until I am induced at 42 weeks.

I've had 2 US thus far. The first one at 8 weeks and my anatomy US at 20 weeks. My Dr did mention I would have one more towards the end as my due date draws closer to get an estimate on the size of the baby. I really wasn't expecting another US, but hopefully I'll get at least one more. I'm anxious to see that face!!!!

Thank you!  Every time someone around here asks how big LO is and I say I have no idea they get this horrified look on their face like the Dr should be letting me know.  Makes me feel better to know its all normal!

I haven't had one since 20 weeks, either. I kinda want one, but hope that doc can tell she's head down and size is good from touch, so I don't have to have another. I just feel like I'm so close...that there's no need for one. And also no ultrasound means things are good, IMO.

Most insurance companies will only cover medically necessary sonograms.  The sonogram at 18-22 weeks is an anatomy scan and is considered by most insurance companies as medically necessary (it is NOT primarily to determine gender).  If there is no medical reason to do a sonogram in the third trimester one will not be done.  OBs and midwives can give you an estimate of baby's size and position just by feel (external exam), if you are curious about these things then you should ASK YOUR DOCTOR!

This. My OB does only 1 u/s during the entire pregnancy unless there are complications.

For my doc, 3 ultrasounds is the standard.

One to establish the pregnancy and due date on the first visit. The next is for the anatomy scan sometime after 16 weeks. And finally to check baby's size at about 36 weeks.

 I'm one "lucky" girl though. I have had some minor bumps in my pregnancy (gestational diabetes, low fluid) so since 28 weeks, I've had an ultrasound weekly. And before that the sono tech had trouble seeing the little guy's lip to nose area to rule out down's so I was getting them monthly. Of all my visits, there have only been 2 times (15w and 27w) i didn't get to see him on the ultrasound.

My last ultrasound was at 23 weeks. I won't have another one unless medically necessary. My Dr pretty much does what you have described at every visit.

What about the 3D and 4D ultrasounds. I haven't even been offered that.  Should I ask my doc?  Is that medically necessary or is that a luxury.

my last u/s was at 20 weeks..and my dr. will not order another one during this pregnancy unless a problem or concern occurs and im fine with that

I've had a few U/S's, one at the very beginning, another around 12 weeks and a final one at 21 weeks (the BIG anatomy u/s).  It is not likely that I will receive another.  My doctor measures me, and at the last visit he mentioned that all looks well and the baby's head is down...he could tell that just by feeling.  I asked if he could tell how big the bay was, and he said he'd take an educated "guess" later on, based on how much weight I've gained, how much I weighed at birth, how much my husband weighed at birth and a couple other factors.  But I think as long as everything is going well, there's no real NEED to know anything else.  It's likely going to be a normal/standard birth with no complications and you should be happy everything is going so well!  Congratulations!
