DD's 2nd birthday is coming up at the end of June. I want to include a note with her invitation that lets people know that it is not necessary to buy new items for her presents. However, I don't want it to sound like a gift is expected (even though I know everyone will bring a gift. I mean, it's a birthday party for the cutest 2-year old ever!). ( ;
What do you think of this:
In the spirit of being eco-friendly, we welcome previously-used items as gifts.
Other suggestions/feedback is greatly appreciated.
Re: Asking for used items for birthday presents?
agree with the PP.
i always tell my MIL that we like used stuff, but she loves to shop. it's something i'd bring up in conversation, like if they ask what she wants/needs/has, but keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable shopping in resale type stores or choosing used things for someone else's kid.
In theory I agree with the PP's. But if someone told me they don't mind used gifts I probably wouldn't take it to heart. If they put it in an invite I would. I'm usually appalled when someone mentions gifts in an invite, but if I saw something like this it would actually make me happy:
"The best gift you can give us your presence. However, if you feel compelled to provide presents as well (and please don't feel compelled), in the spirit of eco-friendliness we LOVE used items and garage sale finds."
